Our guest Gloria Feldt is the author of NO EXCUSES: 9 Ways Women Can Change the Way They Think About Power (Seal Press; March 2012) in which she analyzes why women resist the power in their hands and provides practical “power tools” to inspire, and move women beyond self-imposed barriers. Cynthia Leive, editor-in-chief of Glamour magazine, said: “Feldt is one of the most motivating women in America, period. Her observations are sharp and her courage is contagious—for women of both political parties.”

Will women seize the golden moment that lies before them? The last time women’s political opportunities were so ripe was 1992 – which was also the last time a presidential election year overlapped  redistricting. The result was women winning 22 of 24 open congressional seats—an event that was dubbed, The Year of the Woman.

The only thing that will keep women from making the most of this latest opportunity is themselves, says Gloria Feldt, a nationally renowned expert on leadership and women’s relationship to power. “Women have everything they need to achieve parity from the boardroom to the ballot box to the bedroom. What stops them now is their own relation to power,” she says. “But we don’t have the luxury of letting this get in our way. This country is crying out for the kind of socially responsible leadership women provide.”

Feldt was named one of America’s Top 200 Women Leaders, Legends and Trailblazers by Vanity Fair and Woman of the Year by Glamour. The former CEO of Planned Parenthood, Feldt teaches “Women, Power and Leadership” at Arizona State University and was called “the voice of experience” by People magazine. She has been widely quoted in  the New York Times, Washington Post and USA Today and has appeared on The Daily Show, the Today Show and Good Morning America and on MSNBC, CNN and FOX.
