Gloria Feldt - No Excuses - Replay

    in Lifestyle

Our guest Gloria Feldt is the author of NO EXCUSES: 9 Ways Women Can Change the Way They Think About Power (Seal Press; March 2012) in which she analyzes why women resist the power in their hands and provides practical “power tools” to inspire, and move women beyond self-imposed barriers. Cynthia Leive, editor-in-chief of Glamour magazine, said: “Feldt is one of the most motivating women in America, period. Her observations are sharp and her courage is contagious—for women of both political parties.”
Will women seize the golden moment that lies before them? The last time women’s political opportunities were so ripe was 1992 – which was also the last time a presidential election year overlapped  redistricting. The result was women winning 22 of 24 open congressional seats—an event that was dubbed, The Year of the Woman.
The only thing that will keep women from making the most of this latest opportunity is themselves, says Gloria Feldt, a nationally renowned expert on leadership and women’s relationship to power. “Women have everything they need to achieve parity from the boardroom to the ballot box to the bedroom. What stops them now is their own relation to power,” she says. “But we don’t have the luxury of letting this get in our way. This country is crying out for the kind of socially responsible leadership women provide.”
Feldt was named one of America’s Top 200 Women Leaders, Legends and Trailblazers by Vanity Fair and Woman of the Year by Glamour. The former CEO of Planned Parenthood, Feldt teaches “Women, Power and Leadership” at Arizona State University and was called “the voice of experience” by People magazine. She has been widely quoted in  the New York Times, Washington Post and USA Today and has appeared on The Daily Show, the Today Show and Good Morning America and on MSNBC, CNN and FOX.

Gloria Ry'ann visits Brunch In The Basement With JaVonne

    in Music

In this segment, we are visited by the beautiful, sexy, and sensuous soulful songstress Gloria Ry'ann. Her voice and vocal range has been compared to the likes of Minnie Riperton and Chante' Moore. That comparison alone should make you want to hear her, but if that is not enough, I can tell you from first hand experience that this woman has the "WOW" factor, a depth and down to earth spirit that is really pure, humble, and thoughtful. Gloria co-hosts this segment as we chat and listen to some of our favorite music with Meka Rae and Nathan James on Brunch In The Basement With JaVonne.

HistoryChiQ on Women Ruling: Good Queen Bess to President

    in Entertainment

Recently the White House sent out an email asking, 'Do You Know Who Ada Lovelace is?' (Yes. Do you?) & there was buzz around the last press conference of the year focusing only on female journalists -- Eleanor Roosevelt did it first, but who's counting... ? Well, someone is, because everywhere you look, someone is trying to restore balance to our patriarchal society. Feminist.com founder Marianne Schnall asked the leading question in her book What Will It Take to Make a Woman President? and got great answers from scores of luminaries on women & leadership. Feminist icon Gloria Feldt has founded Take the Lead Women, based on her book No Excuses: 9 Ways Women Can Change How We Think about Power . But could Plato have the answer? Professor Anna Caney's new transcription of a previously unpublished work by Henry Howard gives a universe of historical reasons why women should rule. Hey, it worked for Queen Elizabeth I.
