Go! Go! Fight! Win!

Cheers like this are being heard across North America as a new football season will  soon be upon us. The cheerleaders dancing at the sidelines are as much a part of the game as the referee.

According to a report, almost 95,200 female students take part in high school cheerleading annually, along with about 2,150 males. College participation numbers are hard to find since cheerleading is not classified as an NCAA sport.

  • Cheerleaders are more likely to get hurt in a formation, than players getting tackled in football.
  • There were more than 20,000 bumps, bruises, scrapes and even worse, severe, injuries last year.
  • Some of the more serious injuries have included concussions, spinal cord injuries and broken limbs.
  • High school cheerleading accounted for 65.1 percent of all catastrophic sports injuries among high school females over the past 25 years.
  • Injuries are up 55% over last years statistics.
