Coming into the competition, the Canadian women were expected to finally make their mark on the world’s biggest stage. The women arrived in Germany as the sixth-ranked team in the world, their highest ranking in program history. With striker Christine Sinclair, the team could boast one of the most dominant players on the planet.

Three games, three losses, just one goal scored and a minus six, goal differential. These are the numbers that signaled the worst-ever performance by a Canadian team in FIFAWomen’s World Cuphistory.

Apparently, someone forgot to send that message to Germany, France and Nigeria. Canada was unable to defeat any of these opponents in the opening round of the tournament, leaving them alone at the bottom of Group A, without a single point.

For the Canadian Soccer Associationthe questions run much deeper, especially since Canada will be hosting the next FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament in 2015. The Canadian Soccer Association has this upcoming opportunity to restore its reputation and place themselves amongst the world’s elite, once and for all.
