Millions of African Americans are preparing to celebrate New Year this coming week. Why are we not celebrating and reflecting on the day that millions of enslaved Africans were freed in the United States on January 1, 1863? Why do we choose to forget what our ancestors went through for their descendants? Do we feel that we do not owe them anything?
