Social Media Venues are for the most part free! They reach millions and millions of people everyday and as small business owners we have access to promoting our business to this epic audience on a regular basis and -like I said before - for the most part we can do this without cost or for very little cost. So why don't we?
We know that most small businesses fail at Social Media because we talk to owners and managers of these companies everyday and hear the same story over 90% of the time. They tell us either they have the sites up and running but simply don't know what to do with them, or they insist that they just don't have the time to fool with these confusing forums and their vaporous protocols
On some occasions we find other small business leaders doing just the oppositie. They end up throwing tons of resources (time and money) at Social Media projects with no fixed strategy for what their doing or hope to accomplish.

In a recent poll it was determined that in Fortune 500 companies today nearly 70% on average had both a Facebook and Twitter interface but of those 70% only 12% felt they were being effective. Just about the same kind of numbers we see in the small business domain.
