World War II Chronicles is a weekly look back to 'This Week in World War II, 75 Years Ago.' Originally produced in coordination with the National Archives to mark the 50th anniversary of the war, World War II Chronicles features original newsreel reports and archival footage to tell the story as it happened, week by week. Hosted by famed World War II newsreel anchor Ed Herlihy, World War II Chronicles is produced by the American Veterans Center.

Few could imagine the extent of Nazi Germany's antisemitic policies. The Wannsee Conference, held in January of 1942, outlined the horrific "Final Solution" to exterminate the European Jewish population.

American industry braced for the war effort on the homefront like never before in its history. President Roosevelt created the War Production Board to prepare war efforts accordingly.

In the opening weeks of 1942, the empire of Japan advanced throughout Southeast Asia; Singapore and the Dutch East Indies were under fierce attack.

General Douglas MacArthur faced pressure after the Japanese resumed their attack on the Philippines, with intense bombing of Manila and surrounding islands.

Over Christmas week of 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Prime Minister Winston Churchill met to reaffirm their "Germany first" policy in the war.

Following Pearl Harbor, the Japanese expanded their empire into the Philippines, Indochina, and the Java Sea. Americans in the Philippines faced serious pressure from the enemy.

In the immediate aftermath of Pearl Harbor, the United States prepared to enter total war.
