World War II Chronicles is a weekly look back to 'This Week in World War II, 75 Years Ago.' Originally produced in coordination with the National Archives to mark the 50th anniversary of the war, World War II Chronicles features original newsreel reports and archival footage to tell the story as it happened, week by week. Hosted by famed World War II newsreel anchor Ed Herlihy, World War II Chronicles is produced by the American Veterans Center.

Winning the Battle of the Atlantic was vital to the success of the Allies in World War II - something that the Germans knew. The threat of u-boat attacks made delivering supplies a great risk.

By the last week in March 1942, the German battleship Tirpitz was in need of repair. The British commandos had achieved their objective in the raid on the St. Nazaire dry dock.

On February 15, 1942, the Japanese captured Britain's critical base at Singapore. This event raise the stakes of the war in the Pacific, and eroded the prestige of the British Empire in Asia.

The media and government propaganda encouraged the participation of women, both on the homefront in production lines, and directly through the transportation of military supplies.

On January 26, 1942, the first US troops arrived in Europe, in Northern Ireland. This marked the beginning of the Allied effort to defeat Nazi tyranny.
