Viki Winterton interviews Author Raj G. Asava and Aradhana (Anna) Asava!

Raj and his wife Anna together launched the Indian American Council (IAC), a 100% volunteer group formed to raise awareness, improve engagement, and channel resources and contributions of the Indian American community through U.S.-based food banks. With a rallying cry of “Hunger Mitao!” (meaning “Wipeout Hunger!”), the IAC launched with an ambitious “Million Meal March” campaign. Within their first year of operation, working initially with the North Texas and Houston Food Banks, the IAC has now raised over 3.5 million meals.

As Plano, Texas residents and both retired, Raj now channels his time and resources in a focused manner to causes related to food insecurity, children’s advocacy, education and mentoring the next generation. Anna has built up significant experience giving time and resources in the nonprofit sector, including leading a nonprofit focused on children’s literacy in India, organizing donor and volunteer groups around humanitarian causes, and mobilizing an entire community around the issue of food insecurity across the US.
