Since the pandemic began many people have been devestated by the loss of their jobs and some even have a loss of their homes. The people experiencing homelessness are doing the worst. But the Union Rescue Mission in downtown L.A. is trying to reach as many people as they can accommodate. As of the last count, the number of families devastated by homelessness increased by 45.7 percent. For a number of years the URM has opened a new facility that exclusively houses women and children experiencing homelessness. It is known as Hope Gardens. Today I talk to Hope Gardens director, Fonda Whitehead about how this facility operates and how it is able to meet such a pressing need.
