He gains his powers by killing a white gorilla, bathing in its blood, and eating its flesh, taking the alias of Man-Ape or White Gorilla. M'Baku, While not called "Man-Ape", he is leader of the renegade Jabari Tribe who have a religious reverence for gorillas (revering the monkey god, Hanuman), Hanuman is a manifestation (avatar) of the Hindu god SIVA The Destroyer .MARVEL has done something like this.
