Sermon 155 "God is Joyful"

Did you know that God laughs? Can you conceive of a God who has humor? Have you ever considered how some of the sayings of Jesus Christ are funny?

Spirituality is not something silly, it's very serious, but there are some comical aspects of people and what happens in this world.

Straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel. Go pay an illegitimate tax with a coin from a fish's mouth, rather than the treasury bag. A coin had Caesar's image on it, so it must belong to him. A camel going through the eye of a needle.

When Jesus said these things, his audience must have chuckled. Jesus probably had a twinkle in His eye and a clever smile on His face. He might have even snickered good naturedly.

God is not a numb lump of cosmic divinity. Jesus was not a morose surly, holier than thou Pharisee.

Joy to the world, God is full of good pleasure, let us now rejoice in Jesus Christ.
