Doug worked in the environmental protection/consulting business for over 30+ years for government agencies (US EPA), Fortune 500 Companies, and consulting companies of various sizes. After the kids graduated from college, Doug and his wife decided to buy a B&B and in 2004, purchased the Brannan Cottage Inn.

The Brannnan Cottage Inn's main building was built in 1860 by Sam Brannan as part of the original hot springs spa in Calistoga, California, a northern town in Napa Valley. Originally built as a resort consisting of 25 cottages, today's remaining building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is this year's winner of Trip Advisor's 2012 Certificate of Excellence.
