Syria is the critical front line in the war against global fascism. The outcome of the US-backed terrorist coup there may hinge on Turkey, whose embattled Prime Minister is waging a curiously successful war against democracy in a country once hailed as the model of a a secular government in a Muslim nation. Many Turks have rejected the secular vision of Ataturk, Founder of the Turkish Republic.

The protests that erupted in Gezi Park led to a vicious government crackdown followed by show trials of military officers not loyal to the aims of the Muslim Brotherhood, which Erdogan's AKP Party represents. In part to serve that agenda, Erdogan has supported the Empire's proxy war against Syria in collaboration with Israel and the Gulf Kingdoms. They may seem strange bedfellows, but it all makes sense if you understand the complex web of interests alternatively cooperating and competing for roles in the New World Order they are attempting to create.

In the middle of all this are the Kurds, a people with out a nation whose population is divided into the post-WWI artificial constructs of Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran. There struggle to find a balance between solidarity and autonomous self-determination provides lessons in how to construct a post-fascist global order.

On SFPI Radio on Saturday, May 24 at 9 AM PST/ 12 PM EST our guest was Bob Rossi of Harvest,  which supports the progressive movement in Turkey and the Kurdish Freedom Movement.
