Recent government reports have highlighted the urgency of ending our dependence on fossil fuels. There are many steps that must be taken to free ourselves from a fossil fuels-based economy, from conservation to bridging strategies to creating an alternative economy that is based on environmentally sound practices and renewable energy.

Those who resist these changes claim the costs are too high. The truth is that many of the benefits are rarely talked about because maximizing the benefit to average people will require a sea change in politics.

Free energy, healthy organic foods, localized economies with fair trade for goods that cannot be produced locally are benefits beyond the obvious one of saving the environment our children will live in.

On Saturday, May 10 at 9 AM PST/ 12 PM EST we will talk with former Executive Director of Oregon Renewable Energy Project about how we will achieve energy independence not only from oil producing nations but from centralized private energy interests. He is now working with Kid Wind, an educational project to promote awareness among children of the possiblities of alternative energy and Organics to You, an organic farming cooperative in Portland that is promoting healthy, sustainable agricultural production and distribution.
