If we are going to organize a "movement" that will lead to democracy in America and the world, we must start with a theme around which people working on various issues can coalesce. There is no issue more central to the critical problems that world leaders are failing to address than the corruption that makes them feel more beholden to their corporate masters than to their Peoples.
Given the size of its economy and military, the US is clearly at the center of the problem. Creating a true democracy there is the key to ending fascism and war in the world. That means attacking the source of the plutocrats power, which is their ability to determine who Americans can choose from in federal elections. As long as the myth that there are two parties rather than one corporate Duopoly beholden to moneyed interests, Americans are going to continue to elect candidates vetted by the rich unless they can be made to understand how to sort out those who are running to represent them from those who wish to represent the corporate interest.
There is a growing movement to amend the constitution to strip the power of corporations and the rich to determine who Americans can vote for. The effort has struggled against a variety of divisive forces. Once organized however, it has the potential to transform the nature of politics in the US and the world.
On Saturday, November 30 at 9 AM PST/ 12 PM EST Mary Beth Fielder will join us to discuss the movement to amend the constitution, the victories it has won, the problems it faces and how we might overcome them to pass an amendment before failure to act on global climate change runs out the clock.
Know the truth and the truth will set you free.
