When you watch or listen to the news in recent days the story of unprecedented violence against Black men by law enforcement is being told in an endless loop of videos and sound bites. However if you talk to many in our community you will find that minus the cameras recent events are far from new. Mistreatment and misconduct by the police towards the Black community is a part of the history of this country that many Americans do not want to deal with. However I would suggest that just like any other unresolved conflict this one will never go away until it is addressed both directly and honestly by all parties involved. Our goal is to provide a forum for just such a discussion. As both a Black man and a former law enforcement officer I have lived both sides of this equation and I can tell you, there are far more good people than bad people. However, part of being good is speaking up when you see bad being done. In this case silence is not golden.
