City of Carlsbad Fire Chief Kevin Crawford began his career in public safety in 1983. Since his entry into the Carlsbad Fire Department in 1986, the Chief advanced through the Fire Department organization holding positions with ever increasing levels of responsibility. In 2002, he was promoted to Fire Chief. In 2007 Chief Crawford was awarded a Juris Doctor Degree from Western Sierra Law School Chief Crawford currently sits as the chairman of the Board of Directors for San Diego County’s Regional Communication System and was recently appointed to the prestigious San Diego County Regional Fire Protection Committee. He served as President of the San Diego County Fire Chiefs’ Association from 2004 through 2007. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the United Way, Burn Institute and Hospice of the North Coast and a member of the Regional Helicopter Advisory Committee. In the late 1980’s, Chief Crawford co-founded the Palomar College Paramedic Program and currently also serves as one of their Fire Academy Instructors. He has also been an EMT instructor with Palomar, Mira Mar and Mesa Colleges. Chief Crawford has authored several articles in Emergency Magazine, Advanced Nursing Material Magazine, and the American Fire Journal and currently is an Editing Assistant with Mosby Times Publishing. Chief Crawford has also been a technical advisor for Emergency Magazine.
