Backed by another City Councilor and 4 MA State Reps, John Connolly blazed a specific path to fix Boston's ailing public schools. The head of the Council's Commttee on Education joins us.

NOTE: Connection problems at the start means the show really begins at 2 minutes and 14 seconds in.

An advisory group had come up with five student-assignment proposals. This new plan goes far, far beyond choosing schools. It sets up 16 citywide schools, demands more favorite features (like advanced work), guarantees kindergarten placement, and drops assignment zones.

This bold, even brash, move goes beyond the patches and tweaks normally tried. Connolly tells us how he'd like to see the system put a very good to great school at ever level in each neighborhood. That's not what Bostonians are used to having.
