Barbara Probst is a licensed clinical social worker specializing in “difficult” or “different” children and their families. Her book When the Labels Don't Fit (Three Rivers Press, 2008) offers a fresh, comprehensive, and practical approach to raising a challenging child - helping parents understand, cope, and nurture their children without assuming that every quirk or struggle is a sign of disorder.

Barbara also teaches at Fordham University's Graduate School of Social Service, where she is currently completing her doctorate, and gives presentations to parent and professional groups throughout the country. Her articles have appeared in publications including the Child and Adolescent Social Work Journal, Journal of Teaching in Social Work, Families in Society, Journal of Therapeutic Schools and Programs, and the Twice-Exceptional Newsletter.
