Heavy users of Facebook, especially among the younger generations, may be susceptible to depression, low self-esteem, and bitter jealousy.  Why might this be so?  Perhaps for too many, social media is really "Social Comparison Media." Comparing your humdrum life to all your friends' "highlight reel" pictures and montages (often fictions, if not fabrications), is an invitation for trouble.  So too, when feeling sad or lonely, hoping to attract others, by sharing excessive personal information in a non-safe and secure forum.  You may come across as wounded; alas, blood attracts "social media" sharks.  What can users and parents do to make social media more safe and truly social?

Tune in today, Tues, Jun 28th at Noon, to Radio Blog Show:  High Tech and Human Connection with Dustin Bray, Computer Expert/Game Strategist and Mark Gorkin, LICSW, the Stress Doc.
