On its face, America is a progressive country centered on ideals such as liberty and freedom for all. But liberty and freedom for whom? Statues around the country have been erected over time honoring people who owned slaves, people who colonized indigenous communities, and those who terrorized people of color throughout the world.

Why are these monuments allowed to stand in a country built on the notions of justice and liberty
