Just after midnight on March 13, the Louisville Metro Police Department entered Breonna Taylor's apartment with a search warrant in a drug investigation and opened fire, killing her. But the police had the wrong apartment; neither Breonna nor her boyfriend, who was with her that night, had any criminal or drug history, and the man whom police were looking for had already been arrested in a different part of Louisville earlier that day. And, in a lawsuit by Breonna's family, it is alleged that the police failed to identify themselves upon entering Ms. Taylor's apartment.
Breonna Taylor joins the ever-growing pantheon of Black women who have needlessly lost their lives to police violence.
