Often people do not know what they want from a relationship, or how to get it, and then find themselves with people/in relationships that are not fulfilling. Do we know what we really want out of a relationship? Or do we only want what we have been taught we should want? Are we afraid to go outside of Society’s rigid guidelines for relationships, love and marriage for fear of ridicule or rejection?
Should individual fulfillment be sacrificed to achieve the mutual goals of the relationship? Can a relationship be truly fulfilling if mutual goals are actualized, but individual goals are criticized, devalued or dismissed entirely?
What can an individual do before, during and after a relationship/marriage to balance or incorporate their goals with the mutual goals of the relationship? Should your spouse support your individual efforts to find fulfillment?
