"Israel is still looking down the barrel of a diplomatic gun." So says columnist Melanie Phillips, writing for the Jerusalem Post just 3 days ago. Israel faces a hostile "Peace Summit" in Paris on January 15th, where 70 nations plan to gather to hammer out the parameters for a renewed Israeli-Palestinian peace process. Tellingly, the two peoples at the heart of the issue, Israel and the Palestinians, will not participate. The Israeli Defense Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, has branded the summit a "modern day Dreyfus trial." The Dreyfus trial took place in Paris in the late 1800's. French artillery officer, Alfred Dreyfus was falsely charged and imprisoned for treason. Dreyfus was Jewish. Lieberman added, "this time, instead of the defendant being one Jew, it will be the entire nation of Israel."
The Dreyfus affair, as it became known, triggered a wave of antisemitism in 19th century Europe. However, the scandal had a rather surprising spinoff, it jump started the political Zionist movement. In this show, John uncovers truths to help modern day Christians pray effectively for God's purposes for Israel.
