Figure skating is notoriously rife with drama and intrigue. Since its introduction to the Winter Olympics in 1924, figure skating has been one of the most popular, yet controversial competitions.

For the first time in the 106 years since the sport was introduced, figure skating will be a team event at the Sochi Games.  In addition to their individual events, athletes from 10 countries will compete against each other as a squad, combining their efforts for a shot at a group medal in addition to individual crowns.

As Olympic events go, this one has the intrigue and secrecy of a Cold War spy novel. Countries have been guarding their playbooks like their national secrets for good reason.

Most recently Amanda won Battle of the Blades with retired NHLer and skating partner Scott Thornton.Amanda joins us to chat about her path to the Olympics and what it means to compete and sacrifice to get to the the top level of amateur sport in the world of figure skating.
