Sombo Chunda is a PhD student in the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs. Prior to coming to the USA, she worked as country manager in Zambia for the Swedish International Development Organization, Diakonia. In her more than 15 years career, Sombo has worked with reputable organizations and contributed to the development of Zambia. She is passionate about public integrity and speaks strongly on the need for accountability in governance. She was the youngest serving member of the board of the Institute of Directors of Zambia in 2014-2016. A trained Accountant, Fellow of the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants (ACCA) as well as holder of a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Sombo believes that every girl should be given an opportunity in life. Because of this belief, she worked closely with the Alchemy Women in Leadership and also volunteered with Chipembele Wildlife Education Trust in South Luangwa National Park where she mentored secondary school girls. She is a 2016 Mandela Washington Fellow and has been selected as a Founders Fellow and International Young Scholar by the American Society for Public Administration in 2017. She is a wife and mother to two children.
