Chimwemwe Mwase hails from Lusaka, Zambia. She obtained her high school education from Roma Girls Secondary School and later, Hillcrest National Technical High School. In 2012, she was awarded a full academic scholarship to attend Paine College in Augusta, GA through the aid of the New Seasons Youth Program. While at Paine College, she has received more than 10 external scholarships and awards such as the Paine College-Africa University Study Abroad award, Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) award, William Randolph Hearst award, Pfizer-Society of Toxicology Undergraduate Student Travel award, and many others. On campus, she is a science and mathematics peer tutor, health educator, and research assistant. She has also spent summers in various labs in California and Georgia, researching therapies for diabetes as well as new cost-effective methods to cleanup environmental pollutants. Chimwemwe is currently on track to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Degree in Biology in May 2016. She plans to attend graduate school to earn a doctorate in the biomedical sciences. Her goal is also to encourage and inspire more young Zambian females to pursue careers within science.
