The East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention (ECBACC) established in 2002 by President and Founder Brother Yumy Odom as a community-based educational, literacy, literary and artistic initiative with the following objectives: 1] To bring together the men / women in the comic book industry, including sci-fi, fantasy and political satire, cartooning / animation, to share ideas and showcase their work; 2] To discuss the impact of the comic book industry; 3] To look at the business aspects of the comic book industry; 4] To look at how the comic book industry can more actively serve as a tool to address community concerns: literacy, incarceration, addictions, homelessness, racism, sexism, etc.; and 5] To establish a network / consortium (ECBACC Synergy Group) and an annual convention (Comic-Con) to address this initiative in an open and public forum. ECBACC, Inc. continues to fulfill this mission. A s the region’s premiere “Black Comic Book Convention” and the forerunner and template for urban comic book & sci-fi conventions.
