The Battle for America!

The battle for America has begun. The propagandists are hard at work; we have a population that is scared and confused and is being driven by a sort of confused patriotism wrapped up in the flag listening to the fringes without truly knowing why. The first straw poll has been drawn and the choices are at best mind blowing. Be very careful what you wish for or be weary of smoke and mirrors.

We also mustn't lose site of the facts, Wall Street seems to be in a tail spin again sucking us in as it did once before. Budget cuts enacted and propelled seemingly by a Republican agenda that befuddles most Americans who clearly wanted to see some taxation of the top 2% of the wealthiest among us.

Unemployment is at 9.1 percent but it would be higher if we counted all those who can only find part time jobs or those who have given up looking for work (25 million people). For the past two and a half years, there have been more than four unemployed works for every job opening (Editorial New York Times). Yet we find that members of congress are cemented to austerity in a political posture that high unemployment will hurt President Obama politically.

We have Gangs, Drugs, Poverty, Foreclosures, our Educational system is being hurt our children are being used as fodder in this political haggling, teachers laid off, class size effected, schools closed. What are we to do?
