Despite a bit of rain, it was a great day in Canada for two-time world champion Lewis Hamilton on Saturday during the Formula One Grand Prix Du Canada, qualifying session. It was Hamilton’s 44th career pole position, which is the number he wears on his helmet and displays on his car. Since the start of the 2015 season, Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has been on pole for 6 out of seven races. He won four races, came in second for two, and came in third, for the heart breaking Monaco race where he was set to win until, his team strategist called him in to pit for what some say, was an un-needed tire change in the last few laps. The move allowed his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg, to win the race. Hamilton was disappointed but later said, “He prefers to look forward.”
Qualifying second was Nico Rosberg, and third was Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen. The man, who put Williams-Martini back on the map, Valtteri Bottas, qualified fourth. Both Lotus drivers Romain Grosjean, and Pastor Maldonado, qualified fifth and sixth. Force India drivers, Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez 7th and 10th. Although Red Bull continues to struggle with the car, both drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat made the top ten.
For the first time since the start of the season, Ferrari’s other driver and four-time champion Sebastian Vettel failed to get past Q1. McLaren-Honda had celebrity actor Michael Douglas in their camp, but they did not have Jenson Button out on the track for qualifying due to, an ERS-related failure in the last practice session on Friday. Because he will be using his fifth engine for the year, the young rookie Dutchman, Max Verstappen, driver for Toro Rosso, will suffer a 10-place grid penalty, making him start 15th.
