Formula 1 Qualifying at the Abu Dhabi Yas Marina Circuit
Saturday November 2, 2013
Qualifying day was met with ups, downs, controversy and surprise.
After the race in Abu Dhabi there are only two races left in the Formula 1 season. The USGP in Austin Texas and the Brazil race.
The 2013 season is the swan song for the very likeable Mark Webber, who just made pole position by beating the time of teammate and red bull champion, Sebastian Vettel.
On the downside was fan favorite and 2008 champion Lewis Hamilton, who qualified fourth but was unable to finish Q3 because his car broke-down. The Mercedes driver is in a great position to take the number two or three spot on points, and help his team land in second place, in the constructors.
Abu Dhabi was not without controversy when the "iceman," Kimi Raikkonen, with Lotus F1 held a press conference to clear up rumors of trouble between him and team heads.
The usually shy Raikkonen said the issues were about money. He went on to say he had not been paid all year and he might not race on Sunday unless, something was worked out. This is Kimi’s last season with Lotus F1 because he made a deal with the Ferrari team and will drive for them next season.
The big surprise during qualifying was Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso who did not make it into the top ten. Alonso will be in 11th place on the starting grid, which has put his team chances of second place, in jeopardy.
