March 8th is the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day. Our guest and my colleague Hazel Katherine Larkin will be our guest, joining us from the United Kingdom, to speak with us about the importance of the day, major issues facing the women of the world today, and the value of news coverage of the women’s issues or lack thereof. We will talk about the amazing news magazine we both write for, Women’s Views on News, or WVoN, also about her book “The Big Book of Hope.” Originally from Ireland, Hazel lived in Asia for ten years; where she wrote for stage, screen and publication. She is now a regular contributor to national newspapers in Ireland, and The Anti Room (a feminist blog run by Irish feminist journalists). Hazel is also a co-editor of Women’s Views on News. Currently working on the first volume of her memoirs, Hazel was instrumental in having The Big Book of Hope published last year. The Big Book of Hope is a compilation of stories – fact and fiction – from over 40 of Ireland’s best known personalities in aid of the HOPE Foundation, which works with the street children of Kolkata (Calcutta). Her blog link is www.ladyscribbles.wordpress.com and she is on Twitter @HazelKLarkin
