My guest Thursday, May 2nd at 3 p.m. PDT/6EDT on MetalSmith BenchTalk is award winning artist and instructor Wanaree Tanner, a self-proclaimed conjurer of modern reliquaries, and card carrying member of Nouveau Relic movement.

About: Wanaree Tanner is an award winning artist and instructor, with a love for illustration and a fascination with world mythologies. She started working in metal clay in 2008 and quickly became obsessed with turning two dimensional drawings into three dimensional forms. When copper clay hit the open market, she bought her first pack and never looked back. After years of experimenting and dreaming, she’s feels she’s finally able to bring the forms lurking in her mind into reality. She has also recently taken up the art of tattooing, combining her secret passion for stippling and pointillism with inking skin.

She travels teaching her techniques, participating in art shows, is a contributor for Metal Clay Artist Magazine, Art Jewelry, Metal Clay Today, is currently the video editor for MCAM’s resource library, and tattoos out of Owl’s Club Tattoo Studio in Quincy, IL.

"Most of my work is inspired my multicultural background and fascination with the mythology and the comparative symbolism of the world. Every culture seems to have a system of signs pointing to some greater truth, beyond the expression of words, keyed into an emotional/instinctual language. Even though the cultural context may be vastly different from place to place, this language seems to translate."
