My Guest this Thursday, September 15th at 3 p.m. PST on MetalSmith BenchTalk is Patti Crandall

Bio: “Metalsmithing, with the focus on creativity.” We’ll talk with Patti about her style and how she’s having so much fun being creative.

Patti is a long-time private student of Jay Whaley's, originally starting jewelry classes at UCSD 10 years ago. While she has a degree in Art History, and has written a children’s book as well as a novel, her love of wearing jewelry got her interested in learning how to make it herself.  Learning to carve waxes for her original line of jewelry was her ambition, and through classes and a lot of hands-on practice at home, she has become an expert wax carver. She now exhibits and markets her work through a gallery in Sonoma, CA. As her instructor, Jay has encouraged Patti to focus on the creative aspects of her work, and to “farm out” her production, which has turned out to be a very practical solution for her. She carves all her custom waxes, and has another firm do the casting, polishing, mold making, and stone setting for her. All of the creativity, and very little of the production headaches!

Patti is a fascinating and fun person, and will join us to talk about her background, and her current work with the torch.
