Food Deserts and Kidney Dialysis "What's the connection?"

We will explore the connection between food desert neighborhoods and kidney dialysis clinics. There has been an alarming rate of kidney dialysis clincs appearing in urban communities classified as food deserts.Most food desert communities consist of check cashing stores, chinese carryouts, corner stores, fast food restaurants, pawn shops and liquor store. In addition, individuals who reside in these communities are at risk for diabetes, high blood pressure, and kidney disease. We will also ask the question "What can you do to avoid being a customer of a dialysis clinic?"
