The Fourth Branch: 2017 Parenting Legislation with Sherry Palmer and Shelia Peltzer, Thursday, May 11, 20, 2017, at 6-8 p.m. Pacific, 7-9 p.m. Mountain, 8-10 p.m. Central, and 9-11 p.m. Eastern.  Sherry and her husband Ron Palmer co-authored Not in the Child's Best Interest in 2013 and are at the forefront of reform in the courtrooms and in the legislatures. Sheila Peltzer is the founder of the Children's Alliance and KN2P, Kids Need Two Parents, and has also been leading the charge in North Carolina. We are pleased to welcome these inspiring women!

Sherry recently spoke to the Texas Senate State Affairs Committee in a hearing on parenting bill, SB 816. If this bill had passed, it would have limited the discretion of the judge in child custody suits brought to the court where at least one fit parent is involved. This change would codify the rights of fit parents in the face of state interference.

Sheila reports "our 2017 shared parenting bill sponsored by Democrats this legislative session never even made it out of the Senate by its April 27 deadline.  A prominent Republican senator who had promised to support it earlier backed out at the end.  He shouted at us, calling us disrespectful when we calmly & respectfully asked why."
