After being at Mount Sinai for 11 months and 29 days, the Lord leads the children of Israel to move on and journey toward the Promised Land. The transition from being slaves in Egypt to being molded into the nation chosen by God Himself to be His own People has begun. Perhaps Moses has an idea of difficult things to come because he talks his father-in-law into going with them.
The Tabernacle now travels with the Israelites, and they leave their long-time camp to follow God wherever He is leading them.
