GOOD NEWS! New York State won the arbitration regarding casino revenue sharing with the Senecas. The City of Niagara Falls can collectively breathe a sigh of relief. The big question is, will city government continue to do what they’ve been doing for the last 10 years? Will city government see this as an opportunity to implement some of the suggestions made by the NY State Controller, the NY State restructuring Board or the city Council’s own Financial Advisory Committee.
Will the city Council make a strong case for a large portion of this revenue be used for economic development? Will the city Council aggressively look to consolidation and streamlining of city operations?
At the end of 2023 this agreement will expire, what will happen then? Will the Seneca’s say to the state “let it ride” or will they say, “we no longer need your exclusivity”.
