"I listen to everything--and not just to the music itself, but to the hearts inside it." -- from "The Shack" by William P. Young. Guest Elli Fordyce, is an actress, life coach, and a 72-year-old jazz vocalist whose album “Songs Spun of Gold” attracted Grammy Award pre-nominations for 2009 in six different categories. Elli shares what has caused her to go "in-and-out-of-the-closet" concerning her relationship with the music business; how she tries to maintain her balance in a life she says can be a "roller-coaster" for her; identifies the first song she remembers hearing and the first one that influenced her to become a jazz vocalist; and offers sage words of wisdom to younger performers as they gain success in the music industry and question whether the "business" aspects are worth the stress one must face. We forgot to ask Elli the last song she wants to hear before she leaves the earth, but will provide it now: it's "Dindi" by composer Antonio Carlos Jobim!

Two songs are featured in this podcast from her CD repertoire to give listeners a taste of Elli's classic, spellbinding style. Watch an interview with Elli for a documentary film about her life at the bottom of this page. Enjoy!

Credits: Guest Co-host EJ Flavors makes an appearance (his Comcast account went down during the show!). Co-host: Neil Alexander. Host and Producer: Valerie Michele Oliver.
