Are some of the plants or trees invading your back yard thanks to your neighbor? Invasive species may pose a threat to the ecosystems they invade primarily because they drain the vital nutrients of competing plants for natural resources. They can even alter the food web. Unfortunately, many unsuspecting homeowners will plant an invasive species without knowing the consequences. So, what do you do if some of the plants on your property are invasive? Lehrer about alternative trees to consider planting to add to the beauty of your yard. Jonathan M. Lehrer is a native Long Islander whose passion for the natural world extends from early childhood. Currently assistant professor and assistant chairman in the Department of Urban Horticulture and Design at Farmingdale State College, he returned home eight years ago after completing his doctoral degree at The University of Connecticut.
