On the evening of June 17, 2015, a mass shootoing took place at Emanual African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. The church is one of the oldest black churches in the United States and has been a site for community organization regarding civil rights. Nine people were killed.
Police arrested a white male, 21 year old Dylann Roof, in Shelby, North Carolina the morning after the attack. He was calmly walked out in a bullet proof vest, then taken to Burger King.
