A Native New Yorker Patty Blount writes software technical guides by day and novels at night. She finished her first novel, a hockey dad murder mystery called Penalty Killer, on a dare by her oldest son. Though never published Penalty Killer was the subject of so many book reports, the seventh grade teacher requested a copy and later returned it, covered in red corrections. Patty did better with Send(Sourcebooks Fire, Aug, 2012), a story about a cyberbully coming to terms with the suicide he caused. A short version of this novel earned a top ten finish in the Writer’s Digest 79 Annual Writing Competition. Her second novel, TMI, comes out this August and is about two girls whose friendship unravels after one posts a secret online.

She realizes most bullying takes place in schools, but she stands firm that this is not a school-only problem. and  parents have to step up and take some responsibility for raising kids who don't turn their backs on violence. "Our generation has raised children with a profound sense of entitlement and very little compassion."
