Exceller was foaled on May 12, 1973 in Kentucky, and remains one of the best equines to race in the United States that never won a year-end championship. Exceller is the only horse to beat two Triple Crown winners in the 1978 Gold Cup (Seattle Slew and Affirmed). He was the winner of 11 Grade or Group 1 Races. His total earnings were $1,654,003. He was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1999. Exceller met his death in a slaughter house on April 7, 1997– two years prior. On Friday, November 6, at 2 PM PST, The Body Politic honors the legacy of Exceller, with special guest, Nicole Smith, Executive Director of The Exceller Fund, to discuss what The Excellor Fund is doing to transition race horses to a second career off the track; find placement of Thoroughbreds directly from slaughter auctions, feedlots, and "at risk" situations, and we will detail specifically how the Fund works with rescue groups to save as many horses as is possible. Find out how you can be the Guardian Angel of a special Exceller Fund horse for as little as 5 dollars per month. Host Suzanne Marcus Fletcher will be taking your live calls, the chat room will be open for one full hour, beginning 2:00 PM PST @ Blogtalkradio/thebodypolitic.
