IN 1860, 4 southern states led the remainder of the the 7 states that became the Confederacy in issuing Articles of Secession detailing the reasons for their desire to leave the Union with the rest of the Confederate states.  There were many expressed reasons for doing so, amongst them states rights, crippling tariffs, abolitionism blamed for inciting violence, dominance of Northern influence in the Federal government,  but the general consensus is the triggering event of the election of an abolitionist president, Lincoln,  and fears over the legislative abolition of slavery and it's exclusion from the recently acquired territories.  In other words,  they sought to continue to exploit low cost human labor thru chattel slavery.  The Confederacy at the time was completely governed by the Democrat Party.

Flash forward to 2018.  The state of CA has declared itself a sanctuary STATE opposed to Fed immigration law.  The governer of CA has accused the POTUS of "attacking" the state.  For some time now,  many cities in that state have declared themselves sanctuary cities.  Their is a law in CA that criminilizes private business owners who cooperate with Immigration auhtorities and report illegal aliens.  The top elected officials in the state are all Democrats,  including the governor, the Attorny General, a US senator,  and city mayors who have declared their intention to shield criminal aliens and others from deportaion,  even to the extent of warning of impending ICE raids.  Could the new Dems be exploiting a new generation of people for their cheap labor and their votes?
