A week after the movie opened nationwide, "The Black Panther" continues to be a topic of debate. It is projected to make close to $400 million dollars nationwide after this weekend; and close to $700 million dollars worldwide during the same timeframe. It is a very entertaining movie. However, what has so many Black folk talking, is the apparent "messaging" of the movie. There is alot of debate if whether the antagonist "Killmonger", is actually a villian or a hero. Likewise, there is debate whether the movie's namesake, "Black Panther" is actually a hero or villian. Very many Black folk question the very idea of an all Black country, indigenous, cohesive, structured and functional, and the most advanced nation on earth, that retains its identity and culture by concealing it's very existence. How much are we willing to risk, to be free to be our true selves?
