American Idol Or Idols In America: TV Rules the Roost

We callously throw around the word IDOL. In biblical times, particularly in the Old Testament, the word idol always had a negative connotation. The Hebrews and the Jews were forbidden to associate with, intermingle or marry people who worshiped idols. The concern from heaven was that God’s people would be influenced and yield to the idolatrous ways of the heathens. Today, the show American Idol, boasts ratings off the charts. While the show itself is meritorious in that it gives people the opportunity to display talent and win a recording contract...the name of the show eludes us as a non-factor because we think the end justifies the means...but really, are we in idolatry?
