The indication of who is in control, in the Christian’s life, is the manifestation of the fruit of the Spirit. Christ reigns in the heart of the one who exemplifies, “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance…” On a good day, we may come close. On most days, we fall somewhere in between the fruit of the Spirit and the works of the flesh “which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envying, murders, drunkenness, [and] revellings…” It’s not easy staying fruity in this rotten basket called earth, but they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and the lusts. A popular American Express commercial asks, What’s in your wallet.? We ask, what’s in your basket?
