According to the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology, 50 percent of first marriages, 67% of second and 74% of third marriages end in divorce in the United States.

By contrast, at approximately 1 percent of marriages, divorce rates in India are amongst the lowest in the world.

Why is this divorce rate so high in the US compared to other countries?  What advantages do other cultures have that keep marriages together?  Does a low divorce rate mean greater happiness?  Let’s take a global tour and explore some reasons why divorce rates might be low in other countries, and the role that culture plays in divorce.
