The first commandment in the Jewish Scriptural account of the Ten Commandments is that “You shall have no other gods before me.” (Exodus 20:3 NRSV) The sages who wrote the book of Exodus realized that God is the one and only source of all that is, including the supply of everything that supports life and well-being.
